My Teaching Philosophy
As a teacher I want my students to know that they can do anything they put their minds to, I am just there to help. The way in which I plan to help them is by creating a curriculum that is fun, exciting, and challenging. By creating a challenging curriculum they will be expected to not only do the work, but to also really understand the information. Along with adhering to a challenging curriculum I also expect my students to live the golden rule. I am a firm believer in loving everyone for who they are and treating everyone like you would like to be treated. By creating a close community in the classroom I hope to find this sense of family without as much thought to any sort of punishment as a disciplinary action.
Throughout my schooling I have learned the concepts of learning theory, developmental stages, and curriculum design. One very important idea that I will use in my classroom is that of adaptation. No matter what stage my students are at cognitively they are all in the same class and will be learning together, no one will be left out for any reason. In my classroom there will be many resources for the children to use, hopefully a good portion of them will be technologically based. In an ever changing world it is important for children to use technology for learning and not just for play. In my classroom I want children to explore technology as much as possible. As a teacher I also want to use technology as much as possible when planning my curriculum. So far the resource I have used most often and will continue to use is the UEN core curriculum site.
In my teaching I will include both formative and summative assessments. I want to do a lot of group work in my classroom and a lot of whole class activities. With these I will most likely do projects and use formative assessments to make sure that all of the students are working in the group and that the project is being fully completed. The summative assessments will be used for subjects such as math, and spelling.
My dreams as a teacher are that I want to create a classroom environment where every child feels like they belong and that the world is theirs for the taking. For me the rewards of teaching are seeing children that are happy to be learning. Seeing children being happy and succeeding at the same time is truly a gift. Teaching is important to me because teachers are a big part in children’s lives. It is extremely hard to go through school if you don’t have anyone to believe in you. I believe that every child has the potential to be great and that’s something that I feel I need to be share with as many children as possible. Believing in my students is how I feel that I will inspire them. Sometimes a child’s teacher is the only person that believes in them. I really think that being a teacher is something that I am meant to do.
